Choose Wisely
Of the many ways to find a contractor qualified to perform work on your home, we recommend choosing one based on their BPI Accreditation or, at least, BPI Certification. BPI holds high standards for their home performance certifications (of individuals) and accreditations (of companies).
Be diligent in your quest and seek multiple bids and opinions from a few different contractors. Energy efficiency, comfort, durability, health and safety should all be addressed with any improvements or modifications to your home. Demand proof of a contractor's qualifications. If you are concerned whether a contractor is BPI Certified or Accredited, you may contact BPI directly for verification of their status. Please review BPI's Guide to Selecting a Contractor.
Map of Contractors
BPI publishes searchable lists of BPI Certified Contractors and BPI Accredited Contractors. BPI Accredited Contractors must employ at least one person with at least two different certifications or two or more people each with two different certifications. Many accredited companies exceed these requirements.
We are compiling the published lists into a map and will post it here in the near future.
