Where to Start
Many incentive programs for home performance require that participating companies be BPI Accredited. Individuals get Certified, companies get Accredited. A minimum of one full time Building Analyst and one full time specialty BPI Certification is required by the accredited organization. These BPI Certifications can be held by the same individual and can be new hires or existing staff.
Refresh Homes assists companies seeking BPI Accreditation, at no charge for the first 2 hours. Just email us your company's name, address, phone, a contact person, and mention you will be seeking BPI Accreditation. We will notify BPI and start the ball rolling. It is good to start this process ASAP.
BPI offers a self assessment to help determine whether BPI Accreditation is right for your company.
How to Get BPI Accredited
BPI now requires new and renewing BPI Accreditation applications to be done online using this form. All fields are required and you will need to print, sign, scan, and save as PDF in order to complete the online application. Assemble your documents (see the Accreditation Checklist below) before applying online.
Accreditation Checklist
- Review the online Accreditation Application and gather all of your documentation. Incomplete Applications will not be accepted or saved.
- Certificate of DBA if seeking Accreditation as a DBA ("doing business as" a named company versus your personal name) from the local Department of State, Division of Revenue, or the local county clerk's office.
- Commercial Liability Insurance Certificate in the amount of $1,000,000.00 or more. Have your insurance company issue a Certificate of Insurance listing BPI as a Certificate holder and have them send the Certificate to: BPI Inc. 107 Hermes Rd., Suite 110, Malta, NY 12020. The company name on the Certificate must match the name of the company being accredited.
- Workers Compensation Insurance Certificate unless operating as a sole proprietor. Have your insurance company issue a Certificate of Insurance listing BPI as a Certificate holder and have them send the Certificate to: BPI Inc. 107 Hermes Rd., Suite 110, Malta, NY 12020. The company name on the Certificate must match the name of the company being accredited.
- Customer Dispute Resolution Policy on your company's letterhead and signed. Download BPI's acceptable policy and cut-and-paste it onto your company letterhead, sign and save as a PDF.
- Accreditation Agreement must be signed and saved as a PDF. This form link is not working on BPI's online application. An Accreditation Agreement can be requested from BPI at accreditationapp@bpi.org
- Accreditation Fees may be paid with a credit card using the online Accreditation Application. Fees are based on the BPI Accreditation Fee Schedule and are due at the first of the year and will be prorated based on the date of your Application.
- BPI ID Numbers, Names, and BPI Certifications for all required staff. Each location to be Accredited must employ adequate BPI Certified staff; different locations or companies may not share staff to meet the requirements.
- Business Documents showing that your company has been in business for at least two years. Business licenses, or other forms are acceptable. Some programs, such as New Jersey's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, require additional documents such as a tax statement showing that all state taxes are current, business registration certificates, etc. Carefully review the requirements of your applicable programs.
What Next?
Once BPI Accredited, companies need to maintain this status by strictly following the requirements of BPI. Any changes to the company, such as contact information or BPI Certified staff, must be communicated to BPI. The Contractor Portal at BPI.org should have the most up-to-date information about your company --check it regularly.
Companies may need to add additional BPI Certifications to staff to satisfy job or program requirements. BPI Accreditation must be renewed online annually at the first of the year.
We encourage BPI Accredited companies to maximize their investments in home performance education, certifications, and equipment by having one or more staff members become BPI Proctors, trainers, or all of the above by joining our Proctor Network™.
